Locate The French Drain: 

The first step when cleaning a French drain is to locate it. This may seem obvious, but if you have never had one installed before or haven’t seen it in some time, it can be difficult to find it. You should look for any signs of standing water or dampness in the area as well as any evidence of recent maintenance work (such as uncovered ground). Once you have located the drain, you can begin cleaning it.

Remove Debris:

The next step is to remove any debris that has accumulated in the drain. This could include leaves, grass clippings, dirt, stones, sticks, and more. It is best to use a garden trowel or other tool to gently dig out any debris from the area surrounding the drain so that everything can be removed cleanly and efficiently. Be sure not to damage any part of the pipe itself in this process!

Flush Out Debris:

After removing all visible debris from around the drain and its pipes, use a garden hose with a nozzle attachment on its end to flush out any remaining debris from inside the pipes themselves. 

Start at one end of the pipe and slowly move along its entire length until all of its contents have been flushed out completely. This will ensure that nothing is left behind and no blockages occur over time due to buildup inside the pipes themselves.

Use Bleach Solution:

After flushing out all of the debris inside your French drain’s pipes using your garden hose, create a diluted bleach solution using 1 cup of bleach per gallon of water and pour it down into each pipe one at a time while moving along their length once again (just like you did with your garden hose). 

Allow this solution to sit for 15-20 minutes before flushing out with your garden hose once more; this will help kill off any bacteria or mold that may have taken hold inside your pipes over time which could otherwise cause problems down the line if left untreated!

Inspect For Blockages:

Finally, inspect each section of pipe for any blockages caused by roots or other objects that may have found their way into your drainage system over time; if there are any blockages present then they will need to be cleared out before you can continue with maintenance work on your French drain system otherwise they could cause major issues later on down the line!
